Chennai: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has forecast heavy rainfall in several parts of Tamil Nadu over the next two days, with a number of districts in the western and central regions expected to receive significant showers.

According to the latest weather bulletin, districts including Nilgiris, Dindigul, Theni, Madurai, Sivaganga, Tiruchy and Perambalur are likely to experience heavy rain on Thursday and Friday.

Officials have advised residents in these areas to remain cautious, particularly those living in low-lying localities where waterlogging could occur following intense rainfall.

More districts expected to receive widespread showers

The weather department has also predicted widespread rainfall activity across Tamil Nadu on Friday.

Moderate to heavy rain is expected in Madurai, Erode, Namakkal, Karur, Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Theni, Dindigul, Tiruchy, Pudukkottai, Sivaganga, Ariyalur and Perambalur districts.

Meteorologists said the current weather pattern remains favourable for rain across large parts of the state, especially in interior districts and hilly regions.

Relief from hot and humid conditions

The anticipated rainfall is expected to bring some respite from the persistent heat and humidity that have affected many areas of Tamil Nadu in recent weeks.

Weather experts noted that the rain could help ease uncomfortable daytime conditions, particularly in districts that have recorded above-normal temperatures.

Temperatures likely to dip slightly

Alongside the rainfall forecast, the RMC has predicted a marginal fall in maximum temperatures across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal over the coming four days.

While no sharp decline is expected, daytime temperatures are likely to remain slightly lower than the levels recorded in recent days.

Officials said the reduction would be gradual and may vary from district to district depending on local weather conditions.

Light rain forecast for Chennai

For Chennai, weather officials have forecast partly cloudy skies over the next 24 hours.

Light rain is expected in isolated parts of the city, particularly during the evening and night.

Despite the possibility of showers, temperatures in the state capital are likely to remain on the higher side, with the maximum temperature expected to touch around 39 degrees Celsius.

Authorities urge caution

The weather department said it is closely monitoring the evolving conditions and will issue additional advisories if required.

Local administrations in districts covered by heavy rain alerts have been instructed to take precautionary measures to ensure public safety and reduce disruptions caused by adverse weather.

Officials have also urged residents to follow weather updates and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall, particularly in areas vulnerable to flooding, waterlogging and landslides.
