Tamil Nadu’s revised voter list will be released on February 17 after verification of over 34 lakh applications.

Chennai: The Election Commission of India (ECI) will officially publish Tamil Nadu’s final electoral roll on February 17, marking the completion of the latest revision exercise aimed at updating voter records across the state.
The revision was carried out as part of the Special Intensive Revision process to ensure that only eligible voters remain on the list. During the exercise, authorities reviewed entries to identify and remove names of deceased individuals, those who had relocated, and records lacking proper documentation.

The draft electoral roll had been released on December 19 last year, inviting the public to submit claims, objections, and fresh applications. Citizens were given time until early February to request additions, corrections, or changes to their voter details.
Officials said the response was substantial, with nearly 34.75 lakh applications received from across Tamil Nadu. These included requests for new voter registrations, corrections in personal details, and address updates.
Booth Level Officers (BLOs) conducted field-level verification through door-to-door visits, document scrutiny, and physical checks to validate applications.
According to election authorities, close to 90 per cent of the applications have already been processed, while the remaining verifications are expected to be completed shortly.
Once finalised, the updated electoral roll will be made available for public access at District Collector offices, Corporation offices, designated polling stations, and on the official website of the Election Commission.
The Commission has also initiated the issuance of voter identification numbers to newly registered voters.
Printing of Elector Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) is currently underway, and starting February 17, the new voter ID cards will be dispatched directly to applicants via express post to ensure faster and more convenient delivery.
Officials said the extensive revision process is part of efforts to maintain an accurate and transparent voter database in Tamil Nadu, which is essential for conducting free and fair elections.
