TVK Party president Vijay files nominations from Trichy East and Perambur ahead of the April 23 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections

Trichy East: TVK Party president Vijay has filed his nomination to contest the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections from the Trichy East constituency. He had earlier submitted his nomination for the Perambur seat on March 30.
Vijay is contesting from both Perambur and Trichy East against the DMK’s incumbent MLAs, R D Sekar and Inigo S Irudayaraj, respectively. The Perambur constituency had traditionally been a CPI(M) stronghold until 2016, and RD Sekar has represented it since winning the 2019 bypolls.

Manifesto highlights: Anti-drug and student support
On March 30, Vijay launched the party’s manifesto for the upcoming elections, promising to establish "anti-drug protection zones" in all schools and colleges across Tamil Nadu and provide monthly financial assistance for students.
Addressing reporters in Chennai, he emphasised his vision for a drug-free and self-reliant Tamil Nadu. "Our primary goal is to create a drug-free Tamil Nadu," he said, adding that all government examinations would be conducted on schedule without delays.
Vijay also announced a monthly financial aid scheme of Rs 4,000 for graduates and Rs 2,000 for diploma holders.
Employment and entrepreneurship initiatives
Speaking on long-term plans, Vijay stated, "Our long-term goal is to transform youth from job seekers into job creators." He introduced the "Local Employment for Local People" initiative, which aims to ensure that 75 per cent of jobs in Tamil Nadu are reserved for local residents.
The "Creative Entrepreneurs Scheme" was also unveiled, aimed at establishing Tamil Nadu as a global hub for creators. The programme intends to train 1.5 lakh creators into entrepreneurs and establish 500 creative schools across the state.
Tamil Nadu polls and political context
Tamil Nadu will hold single-phase assembly elections on April 23, covering 234 constituencies. Vote counting is scheduled for May 4.
The main contest in the state is expected between the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance, which includes Congress, DMDK, and VCK, and the National Democratic Alliance, led by AIADMK with allies BJP and Pattali Makkal Katchi.
