New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday encouraged a couple undergoing divorce proceedings to attempt an amicable settlement over a dinner meeting.

The bench, comprising Justice B V Nagarathna and Justice Satish Chandra Sharma, was hearing a petition by a fashion entrepreneur who sought permission to travel abroad with her three-year-old child.

The justices emphasised the importance of considering the child's future, asking both parents to set aside their egos. "Much can happen over a cup of coffee," the court remarked, suggesting they meet somewhere more suitable than the court canteen and even offering an alternative drawing room.

The court advised the couple to swallow the past like a bitter pill and focus on what lies ahead. Expecting a constructive outcome, the bench posted the matter for further hearing on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, it directed the parties to interact with each other and revert to the court the next day with a potential resolution.
