Pakbada (Uttar Pradesh): High drama unfolded in Pakbada on Wednesday morning when a woman caught her husband living with another woman for nearly three weeks. Enraged, she thrashed him with slippers, tied his hands and legs with the help of the other woman’s parents, and dragged him through the streets before police intervention brought the matter under control.

According to eyewitnesses, the man, a resident of Mohalla Bada Mandir, had been missing from his home for the past 20 days. His wife, who had been searching for him, finally spotted him around 10 a.m. with another woman in the locality. Furious, she confronted him and began beating him in full public view, sparking a crowd to gather.

The husband was overpowered, tied with a rope, and dragged along the road amid the chaos. The woman’s parents also joined in the confrontation.

Soon, police arrived and took all three—husband, wife, and the other woman—to the station. Family members from both sides were called in, and after lengthy discussions, a compromise was reached. The husband eventually left the police station with his wife.

Legal Perspective:

The case could potentially fall under Section 498A of the IPC (cruelty by husband) or Section 494 (bigamy/adultery-like situation, though adultery per se is no longer a criminal offence after the Supreme Court’s 2018 ruling).

If either party had filed a written complaint, police could have booked the husband under relevant provisions relating to domestic cruelty or under laws protecting women from harassment.

However, since no formal complaint was lodged, the police facilitated a compromise and released the parties. In-charge Inspector Vinod Kumar confirmed: “Both sides reached an understanding. No written complaint has been given, hence no case has been registered.”
