At least 11 people have been killed and 50 injured in a stampede outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, where a massive crowd had gathered for a felicitation event celebrating the Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) historic first Indian Premier League (IPL) title win.

The chaos erupted as fans converged near the stadium for the event, organized by the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).

Visuals from the scene showed police and emergency personnel frantically shifting injured and unconscious individuals to a nearby hospital. Eyewitnesses reported that many attendees fainted amid the crush of the crowd.

Television channels were the first to report the fatalities from the incident.

The authorities have confirmed that the bodies of two persons are at Bowring Hospital and that of four others at Vaidehi Hospital. Six persons are being treated in the ICU of the Vaidehi Hospital and three are admitted to the ICU.

The identities of the deceased are yet to be established.

Police stated that the ambulances were unable to move quickly to the hospital due to the overcrowding on the roads.

The government of Karnataka had earlier cancelled the victory parade from Vidhana Soudha to Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium, citing security reasons.

According to reports, three metro stations including Vidhana Soudha, MG Road, and Cubbon Park, have been temporarily closed.
