Sreelekha Mitra's protest appearance has now turned into a police case. The Bengali actor is facing multiple complaints after allegedly displaying a derogatory poster of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a student protest in Kolkata, with the BJP demanding her immediate arrest.

The controversy stems from the July 24 student march from Sealdah to Dharmatala, where demonstrators took to the streets over the alleged NEET question paper leak and demanded Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation.

Mitra joined the protest and was allegedly seen holding a placard featuring what complainants described as an objectionable caricature of the Prime Minister.

BJP leader Keya Ghosh lodged a complaint against the actor at Kolkata's Anandapur police station.

Similar complaints have also reportedly been filed at other police stations, including the Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Police Station.

According to the complaint, Mitra's act amounted to publicly displaying a disrespectful image of the Prime Minister during the protest. Ghosh said the FIR was filed over the alleged insult to the country's Prime Minister and called for the actor's immediate arrest.

The complaints invoke Sections 352 (provocation with intent to cause a breach of peace), 353 (public support for provocative conduct), and 356 (defamation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

 

Responding to the complaints, Mitra remained defiant. In a video shared on her social media account, she said, "If you wish to arrest me, then arrest me; if you wish to send me to the gallows, then send me to the gallows. I believe there will be a movement against this as well."
