Southern Railway announces special trains for Puja festival to manage passenger rush

Chennai: To manage increased passenger traffic during the upcoming Puja festival, Southern Railway has announced the operation of several special trains across key routes.
A one-way special train will be operated from Mangaluru Central to Hazrat Nizamuddin, aimed at catering to long-distance passengers travelling north during the festive period.
In addition, special services will be run between Mangaluru Central and Thiruvananthapuram North in both directions, providing additional capacity for regional travellers.
Advance reservation for all reserved special trains will open at 08:00 hrs on 1st October 2025 (Wednesday).
To ease local travel demand, Southern Railway will also operate a One Way Unreserved MEMU Express Special:
Train No. 06162 Madurai – Tambaram One Way Unreserved MEMU Express Special
This service does not require prior booking and is intended to facilitate last-minute and short-distance travel.
Another festive service, Train No. 06005 Dr MGR Chennai Central – Mangaluru Festival Special, is being operated to support increased seasonal demand.
