The order states that intelligence inputs and field verification provided sufficient grounds to believe the premises were being used for activities linked to an unlawful association

Kashmir: South Kashmir’s educational institute Darul Uloom Jamia Siraj-ul-Uloom in Shopian has been banned by the Union Territory administration under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
According to an order issued by Kashmir Divisional Commissioner Anshul Garg, the action follows a dossier submitted by the Shopian Senior Superintendent of Police on 24 March 2026. The institute has been accused of serious legal, administrative and financial irregularities, including questionable land acquisition, lack of mandatory registration, and alleged attempts to avoid regulatory oversight.
The order states that intelligence inputs and field verification provided sufficient grounds to believe the premises were being used for activities linked to an unlawful association. The institution’s defence denying involvement in such activities was rejected as “unsustainable”.
Authorities have been empowered to seize the premises and property, while also arranging the transfer and admission of affected students to government schools in the district.
