Onam (Kerala) — September 4–5

Kerala’s most iconic festival, Onam, brings a two-day school break.

September 4: Uthradom

September 5: Thiruvonam (Main day of Onam)

Schools across Kerala will remain closed during these dates.

Id-e-Milad — September 5–6

The festival marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad will be observed on September 5 and 6 in several states.

- Schools in parts of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Kerala are expected to declare a holiday.

Note: Some states may observe it on only one of these two days.

Teacher’s Day — September 5

Post-Eid Friday (Jammu & Srinagar) — September 12

Durga puja holidays — September 29–30

The last week of September marks the beginning of Durga Puja, one of the largest cultural festivals in eastern India.

September 29: Maha Saptami, Holiday likely in West Bengal, Assam, Tripura

September 30: Maha Ashtami, School closures extend to Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, Rajasthan

Many schools in eastern states often declare an extended break that continues into early October, covering Navami and Vijaya Dashami as well.
