Following the deadly bus accident in Saudi Arabia that is feared to have killed at least 42 Indian Umrah pilgrims, the Telangana Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) has released a set of helpline numbers for families seeking information about their relatives.

The accident occurred early Monday when a passenger bus travelling from Mecca to Madina collided with a diesel tanker. Several residents of Hyderabad were on board, according to the Telangana CMO.

State Control Room Activated

The Telangana government has set up a dedicated control room at the Secretariat to monitor the situation and coordinate relief measures.

“A control room has been set up at the Secretariat to monitor details and relief measures regarding this incident… to provide information to the families and relatives,” the CMO posted on X.

Indian Consulate in Jeddah Opens 24×7 Helpline

The Consulate General of India in Jeddah has also activated a round-the-clock helpline for assistance. “In view of a tragic bus accident near Madina… a 24x7 Control Room has been set up,” the Consulate posted on X.

Leaders React

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy expressed shock and directed the Chief Secretary and DGP to obtain full details urgently. He also instructed officials to coordinate with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Saudi Embassy for relief actions.

Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi condoled the tragedy, stating that a bus carrying 42 pilgrims caught fire after the collision.

He said he has spoken to officials in Riyadh and urged the Union government to ensure the swift repatriation of bodies and medical care for the injured.

Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao has also spoken with officials in Delhi and issued immediate directives to oversee relief efforts.
