Uttar Pradesh: A stone was thrown at the Swarna Shatabdi Express carrying RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Thursday evening in Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad district, damaging a window panel but leaving all passengers unharmed, according to railway and police officials.

The incident took place around 7:15–7:20 pm when Train No. 12003, the Lucknow–Delhi Swarna Shatabdi Express, was passing through the stretch between Makkhanpur and Firozabad stations on the Etawah–Tundla railway section. Officials said the stone struck the Executive Class coach (E-1), breaking the outer glass pane of a window on the opposite side of where Bhagwat was seated.

Railway authorities confirmed that Bhagwat was travelling in the same coach but seated in a different section, reportedly near berths 39–40, while the impact occurred closer to seat number 50. He was returning to Delhi after attending an event in Kanpur at the time of the incident.

North Central Railway officials stated that only the external glass layer of the coach window was damaged and there was no breach into the compartment or injury to any passenger. The train did not stop immediately after the incident as the damage was not considered to pose an immediate safety risk.

Security agencies were alerted and arrangements were made at Tundla Junction, where the train arrived at around 7:34 pm. Personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) boarded the train to inspect the coach and ensure the safety of all passengers, including Bhagwat. After confirmation, the train resumed its journey towards New Delhi at approximately 7:41 pm.

Firozabad Senior Superintendent of Police Aditya Langhe said the incident occurred near the border area between Rasoolpur and Dakshin police station limits. He added that police teams, along with the Special Operations Group and local surveillance units, were deployed to trace those involved.

Officials also confirmed that one person has been detained for questioning as part of the investigation. CCTV footage from nearby railway stretches and surrounding areas is being examined to identify the source of the stone-throwing. A formal FIR is being registered based on a complaint, and a joint investigation by GRP and RPF is underway.

Authorities have not reported any disruption to rail services beyond the brief inspection at Tundla, and no injuries were recorded among passengers or staff. The investigation remains ongoing to determine the exact circumstances and individuals responsible for the incident.
