Uttarakhand: For over a decade, a woman living on the streets of Roorkee, Uttarakhand, was known to locals as a beggar with no possessions or income. That image was shattered when residents discovered her hidden savings, two large bags filled with coins and small denomination notes collected over 12 years.

Officials said the counting began early in the morning and continued late into the evening, with more than ₹1 lakh already tallied, according to Dynamite News. The revelation stunned locals, who had seen her as destitute.

Police later secured the money and arranged medical care for the woman, noting her long isolation and possible mental health issues.

The incident has sparked reflection on saving habits, as experts point out that consistent discipline, not high income, is key to wealth accumulation. Despite her minimal means, the woman had quietly built a small fortune through years of persistence, a contrast to many salaried individuals who struggle to save amid rising costs and debt.

Her story, authorities said, challenges assumptions about poverty and proves that even the smallest amounts, saved steadily, can grow into something significant.
