Amid the concern of growing COVID cases in the country, the ministers are now required to undergo RT-PCR tests before meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

According to the latest update from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India’s active COVID-19 caseload stands at 7,121, with 306 fresh cases reported in the last 24 hours.

As reported by India Today, the decision to make RT-PCR tests mandatory comes as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of the virus, particularly with the detection of new variants such as XFG. The tests will be administered to all ministers and officials meeting PM Modi, including the 70 BJP functionaries from Delhi scheduled to meet him on June 11.

To celebrate the BJP’s recent victory in the Delhi Assembly polls, PM Modi has invited the party functionaries today for a dinner at 7:30 PM. In light of the rising COVID cases, the mandatory RT-PCR tests will ensure the health and safety of all attendees.

The top three states contributing to the active caseload are Kerala, Gujarat, and Karnataka. Kerala leads with 2,223 active cases, followed by Gujarat with 1,223 active cases, and Karnataka with 459 active cases. In the last 24 hours, Kerala reported 170 new cases, Gujarat reported 114 new cases, and Karnataka reported 100 new cases.
