Chennai: Renowned journalist B R P Bhaskar has found a new ‘home’ for himself in Chennai. On Thursday, the veteran journalist shifted from his Adyar residence to a geriatric care in Raja Annamalai Puram which is run by a group of doctors.

The 91-year-old newsman has decided to spend the rest of his life at the facility. He will continue ‘writing’ from there. A computer will be brought to the place within three days. A helper, who will read out publications including those in Malayalam to Bhaskar will visit the place twice every week.

“I have been suffering from age-related macular degeneration (AMD) for some time. Since failing eyesight is making me increasingly dependent on others, I have decided to move to an assisted living facility in Chennai run by Geri Care, an institution set up by a group of doctors. Friends can continue to reach me there on my mobile.” said B R P Bhaskar.

When asked why he is not considering returning to Kerala, the eminent journalist said that he did not feel Kerala is ‘old-age’ friendly. He pointed out the lack of amenities for elderly people in the state.

Bhaskar’s wife Rama passed away earlier this year, in February. His only child Bindhu died in 2019 as well. His granddaughter is living abroad. B R P had been living in his home in Adyar under the care of his son-in-law Balaji.
