New Delhi: A high-intensity explosion near Gate No. 1 of Lal Quila Metro Station, adjacent to Delhi’s Red Fort, left at least eight dead and three critically injured on Monday evening, as eyewitnesses described a scene of unimaginable horror.

One local, who witnessed the aftermath, told ANI, “We were at the red light when a loud blast happened. The sound was so loud, we were shocked. We started receiving phone calls.”

He continued, “Officials came, and we informed them about the blast. We could not go near the area, but when we came here, we saw a part of someone’s palm torn apart. Another area we saw a person’s lungs. No one can understand what just happened here.”

“When we saw someone’s hand lying on the road. We were absolutely shocked. I can’t explain it in words.”

The explosion originated from a parked car near the metro station, immediately igniting three nearby vehicles and reducing them to charred skeletal frames. The intensity of the blast shattered the windows of vehicles parked meters away and was reportedly heard in the surrounding buildings of the congested area.

The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) dispatched seven fire tenders to contain the blaze, while the Delhi Police Special Cell and anti-terror squads cordoned off the area. A high alert has been issued across the city.

Possible link to Faridabad explosives case

Authorities are also investigating a potential connection to a major seizure earlier in the day in Faridabad, Haryana, where police recovered around 360 kg of suspected ammonium nitrate, along with weapons and ammunition, from a rented house. Dr. Muzammil, a teacher at Al Falah University, was arrested in connection with the cache. He is reportedly wanted in a terror-related case linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed in Srinagar.

The incident has left locals and commuters deeply shaken. Graphic visuals of burnt vehicles and scattered human remains are circulating widely on social media.
