Forensic investigators have confirmed, through DNA testing, that Dr Umar Un Nabi (also referred to as “Dr Umar”) was the individual driving the white Hyundai i20 that detonated on Nov. 10 near the Red Fort metro station in Delhi, according to multiple sources.

The explosion occurred at approximately 6:52 pm on Monday, killing at least nine people and injuring more than twenty others.

The blast outside the historic monument, one of the capital’s most-sensitive locations, triggered a terror investigation under the country’s anti-terror legislation.

Key Findings & Allegations

DNA samples taken from human remains recovered from the blast site have been matched with samples submitted by Dr Umar’s relatives, confirming his presence in the vehicle at the time of detonation.

Investigators say Dr Umar, originally from Pulwama district in Jammu & Kashmir, had been employed at the Al Falah University in Faridabad as a medical professional.

In the days before the explosion, security agencies recovered nearly 3,000 kg of explosives, detonators, and bomb-making materials from a hideout in Faridabad, which they believe is linked to a terror logistics module in which Dr Umar is implicated.

CCTV footage reviewed by investigators reportedly shows the Hyundai i20 arriving at a parking area near the Red Fort around 3:19 pm and remaining stationary for about three hours before the blast.

The case has been handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for further probe.

Investigative Focus

Authorities are working to determine whether the blast was a suicide attack or an improvised detonation triggered in panic after the crackdown in Faridabad.

Senior officials suggest that Dr Umar may have panicked following the arrests of co-accused in the module and acted hastily in an attempt to escape capture.

Forensic teams are also analysing the exact nature and quantity of explosives used, and whether the shock-wave and damage profile correspond to a planned attack.

Security and Response

The blast has provoked heightened vigilance across Delhi’s high-density and symbolic locations, including metro stations, tourist zones, and government buildings.

The Home Minister has urged swift action, and the Government has reaffirmed its “zero-tolerance” policy towards terrorism.

Important Caveats

While DNA results link Dr Umar to the vehicle, official disclosure of his death or status remains pending.

The investigation is ongoing, and formal charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) or other statutes have not yet been publicly detailed.

Some details, such as the exact number of victims and the full network behind the plot, remain under verification by agencies.

This development marks a breakthrough in what is being treated as one of the most serious terror-related incidents in Delhi in recent years.

The identity confirmation is expected to accelerate arrests and further uncover links between terror modules and medical-professional networks.
