Rajasthan: A major tragedy unfolded in Jhalawar, Rajasthan on Friday morning as a government school building collapsed in Piplodi village of Jhalawar district, killing at least four children and leaving dozens trapped under the rubble.

What happened?

On Friday, around 9am, the roof of a government school in Piplodi village, under Dangi Pura police station limits in Jhalawar district, collapsed suddenly. The school was reportedly functioning at the time, with nearly 60–70 children inside the premises. As per reports, 7 children have died and at least 30 are feared to be trapped under the debris.

Local villagers alleged that the school building had been in a dangerously dilapidated condition for a long time. Despite repeated concerns, no repair or reconstruction work had been undertaken. The roof reportedly gave way while classes were ongoing, leading to the fatal incident.

Rescue operations began immediately after the collapse, with villagers, teachers, and school staff pulling children from the rubble by hand. JCB machines were later brought in to remove heavy debris. The district administration and a disaster relief team are now leading the operation. The injured children are being transported to Manohar Thana Hospital.

The local police, including the Dangi Pura police station in-charge, are on the scene along with medical staff. The district collector's office has also dispatched disaster response teams. Relatives of the affected children have begun arriving at the hospital.

The cause of the collapse is under investigation, but early indications suggest criminal negligence due to poor infrastructure maintenance. More updates are awaited as the rescue operation continues.
