Schools across several regions of India have issued updated holiday notifications for Monday, 17 November 2025, with Tamil Nadu emerging as the only major state declaring widespread closures.

Continuous heavy rainfall, waterlogging, and safety concerns—particularly in Chennai and surrounding districts—have prompted authorities to declare a precautionary holiday for all schools.

Meanwhile, other states, including Delhi NCR, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Odisha, will remain open, with no weather or administrative disruptions reported.

The most critical situation has unfolded in Tamil Nadu, where persistent rain linked to the extended impact of earlier cyclonic activity has caused inconvenience across low-lying areas.

District collectors of Chennai, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, and Kancheepuram have announced a one-day closure on Monday to ensure student safety.

Disaster management teams continue monitoring vulnerable pockets, with advisories urging parents and commuters to avoid non-essential travel due to waterlogged arterial roads.

Elsewhere, normalcy prevails. All schools in Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, and Greater Noida will function as usual, with no rain warning or AQI-triggered shutdown in place.

Authorities have confirmed that regular classes and scheduled examinations will proceed without interruption.

In Bihar, schools that were recently repurposed as polling stations during the state elections have fully resumed operations. Districts such as Patna, Gaya, Nalanda, and Begusarai have reopened classrooms, with no weather-related concerns reported across the state.

Andhra Pradesh is also operating normally, marking a return to routine after earlier disruptions caused by Cyclone Montha-related rainfall in previous weeks.

No fresh alerts have been issued for 17 November. Similarly, Telangana—including Hyderabad and major tier-2 cities—has not declared any holiday, though localised traffic advisories remain due to ongoing civic works.

In Odisha, where southern districts faced earlier cyclone-linked instability, conditions have stabilized. Schools across Ganjam, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Rayagada remain open.

Uttar Pradesh, too, has announced no closures, with cities like Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra, and Varanasi functioning on their normal academic schedules.

For now, Tamil Nadu stands as the only major region observing a school shutdown on Monday, with all other states continuing uninterrupted classes.
