Kalpetta: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi would reach Wayanad on June 12 to thank the voters for the huge victory in the constituency. He would be given receptions at two assembly constituencies each in Wayanad and Malappuram districts.
Meanwhile, it is expected that, Rahul would submit his resignation letter to lok sabha speaker regarding his decision to vacate Wayanad and retain Raebareli. A UDF team from Wayanad district had met Rahul at New Delhi and had asked him to continue as the MP of Wayanad. But, it is said that, Rahul had not opened up his mind before the leaders regarding his decision in connection with this.
According to reliable congress sources, it is likely that Rahul Gandhi would retain Raebareli as his constituency and would vacate Wayanad seat.
Congress high command feels that, since the image of both the party and Rahul Gandhi have received a boos during this election, it would be helpful for the party to make more progress in the HIndi heartland if Rahul would shift his area of activity to UP. AICC general secretary KC Venugopal had said that, a decision regarding this would be taken in two days. CWC meeting held on Saturday has passed a resolution asking Rahul Gandhi to take up the responsibility of the leader of opposition in the parliament.
