Dallas: Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition (LOP) in India's Lok Sabha, addressed students at the University of Texas, emphasizing the significance of India's Constitution and its inclusive nature. He contrasted his party’s views with those of the BJP and RSS, stressing the importance of diversity in India.
"The RSS believes India is one idea, while we believe India is made up of many ideas. We believe that everybody should be allowed to participate, allowed to dream, and should be given space regardless of their caste, language, religion, tradition, or history," he said.

Elections show people defending the constitution
Gandhi argued that the 2024 elections in India showcased how people saw an attack on the country’s Constitution, with many feeling that Prime Minister Modi’s government was undermining India’s rich traditions and diversity. According to him, these concerns resonated deeply with voters during the elections.
"Every single word that I have said to you is in the Constitution. The foundation of modern India is the Constitution. What people understood in the election clearly, and I saw it happening when I used to raise the Constitution, people understood what I was saying," He stated.
"They were saying that the BJP is attacking our tradition, attacking our language, attacking our states, attacking our histories. Most importantly, what they understood was that anybody who is attacking the Constitution of India is also attacking our religious tradition," Rahul Gandhi added.
Referring to his speech in Parliament, Gandhi mentioned the Abhayamudra, a symbol of fearlessness found in various Indian religions. He suggested that the ruling BJP party had struggled with his message. "They don’t understand, but we are going to make them understand," he stated confidently.
Fear of BJP disappears
He also claimed that following the election results, the fear of the BJP among the people had dissipated. "Within minutes of the results, nobody in India was afraid of the BJP or the Prime Minister anymore," he remarked.
Gandhi made it clear that this shift was not a personal victory for him or the Congress Party but for the people of India. "These are the achievements of the people who realised the value of democracy and stood up to protect our Constitution," he concluded.
Rahul Gandhi's words highlighted his belief in the power of the Constitution and the fight to preserve India's democratic values.
