New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday criticized the BJP and RSS, alleging that they oppose English education for the poor because they don't want them to ask questions, move ahead, and attain equality. Gandhi's comments come in response to recent remarks by Home Minister Amit Shah on the English language. According to Gandhi, English is not a symbol of shame but a bridge that can connect India to the world and provide opportunities for progress and equality.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah recently sparked a controversy with his comments on the English language, stating that those who speak English in India will soon feel ashamed. In response, Rahul Gandhi wrote on his X account, "English is not a dam, it is a bridge. English is not shameful, it is empowering. English is not a chain -- it is a tool to break the chains." He emphasized the importance of teaching English to every child in India, describing it as an empowering tool that can help bridge the gap between different socio-economic groups. He also pointed out that English is essential in today's world, alongside one's mother tongue, for employment, confidence, and global competition.

Gandhi also highlighted the importance of promoting India's diverse languages while teaching English. "Every language of India has soul, culture, knowledge. We have to cherish them -- and at the same time teach English to every child. This is the path to an India that competes with the world, that gives every child an equal opportunity," he said.
