New Delhi: The INDIA bloc will put pressure on the government and ensure that the farmers get a legal guarantee for MSP, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said on Wednesday after he met a delegation of farmer leaders in the Parliament House complex.

The delegation of farmer leaders from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka apprised Gandhi of the issues being faced by the tillers.

"We will have a discussion with INDIA bloc leaders and will put pressure on the government to ensure that the farmers get a legal guarantee for MSP," Gandhi told reporters after the meeting.

Congress general secretary KC Venugopal, former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, Congress leaders Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa,Gurjeet Singh Aujla, Dharamvir Gandhi, Amar Singh, Deepender Singh Hooda and Jai Prakash were also present in the meeting.

Sources said they told Gandhi of the issues being faced by farmers in their respective states.

Earlier, the Congress MP alleged that farmer leaders who were invited by him to meet in Parliament were not allowed inside.

Later the farmer leaders were allowed to come to Parliament only after LoP Rahul Gandhi decided to go outside to meet them.

Rahul Gandhi alleged that because they are farmers, maybe this is the reason they are not allowing them in.

"We had invited them (farmer leaders) here to meet us. But they are not allowing them here (in Parliament). Because they are farmers, maybe this is the reason they are not allowing them in," he added.

Meanwhile, the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (non-political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha leaders announced on Monday that they would burn effigies of the Union government all over the nation and launch a fresh protest to fulfil their demands for legalising the MSP guarantee.

As part of this protest, they will also stage a "long march" to support the private bills by the opposition. Subsequently, the protesting farmers will take out a tractor rally nationwide on August 15, when the country marks Independence Day. They will also burn copies of new criminal laws.
