Uttar Pradesh: An Air India flight carrying Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi aborted its first landing attempt at Lucknow airport because of gusty winds before landing safely on the second attempt.

Air India flight AI-1717, travelling from Delhi to Lucknow, performed a go-around at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport on Tuesday after the crew assessed the weather conditions.

The aircraft abandoned its first landing attempt at around 3.45 pm and landed safely approximately 10 minutes later, at 3.55 pm.

All passengers disembarked normally after the aircraft landed.

What is a go-around?

A go-around is a routine aviation procedure in which pilots discontinue a landing attempt and climb back up before making another approach.

Pilots may initiate a go-around because of strong winds, poor visibility, runway conditions, air traffic or an approach that is not considered safe.

A go-around does not necessarily indicate an emergency or mechanical problem.

Air India had not issued an official statement on the incident at the time of publication. The aircraft landed safely on its second attempt, and there were no immediate reports of injuries or disruption among passengers.
