Wayanad: Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday urged filmmakers to focus on creating content that promotes peace, love and social welfare, while emphasising that people should still be allowed to express themselves freely.

The Wayanad Lok Sabha MP, who is on a three-day visit to Kerala, made the remarks in response to questions about the Kerala High Court’s stay on the release of the film The Kerala Story 2 – Goes Beyond.

“Firstly, I feel that people should be allowed to express themselves, but in an environment increasingly filled with rhetoric, anger and hatred, it is better to create things that are happy and promote peace, love and welfare among people,” she said.

Vadra highlighted the spirit of solidarity displayed in Kerala following the Chooralmala-Mundakkai landslides, which claimed hundreds of lives. “Everybody helped each other and continue to do so irrespective of religion or caste. I think this spirit is really the essence of India and the spirit of Kerala, and that is what is so beautiful about it,” she said.

She added, “Why not showcase that? Why not talk about it? Why not let the whole country also learn from this example?”

Reflecting on her experience as Wayanad MP, Vadra said she witnessed first-hand how people live together harmoniously, celebrate festivals collectively, and support each other in times of crisis.

The remarks come after a single-judge bench of the Kerala High Court stayed the release of the controversial film for 15 days, citing prima facie evidence of a “manifest non-application of mind to the requirement of law” by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The producer has since approached a division bench challenging the order.
