Prayagraj: As the Maha Kumbh unfolds in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj, the holy Sangam is buzzing with devotees and eccentric saints showcasing their unique talents.
Starting from Chhotu and Chabhi Wale Baba to Bavander and Splendor Baba, now 'Kaante Wale Baba', also known as Ramesh Kumar Manjhi, has become a major attraction at Maha Kumbh.
Explaining his unusual practice, the Baba said, “I serve the guru. Guru gave us knowledge and gave us full strength. It is all God’s glory that helps me do this (lay on thorns)... I have been doing this every year for the last 40-50 years. I do it because it benefits my body... It never hurts me.”
Devotees gather in awe to witness his dedication and endurance. Baba also shared that he donates half of the 'dakshina' (offerings) he receives and uses the rest to meet his daily needs.
International delegation takes the holy dip
Adding to the festive vibe, a 21-member delegation from 10 countries arrived in Prayagraj to experience the Maha Kumbh. Representatives from Fiji, Finland, Guyana, Malaysia, Mauritius, Singapore, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Trinidad and Tobago, and the UAE are here to soak in the spiritual energy of this massive event.
The group, invited by the External Publicity and Public Diplomacy Division of the Ministry of External Affairs, is scheduled to take a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam, the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati rivers, on January 16.
Exploring India’s cultural legacy
During their visit, the delegation will take part in a heritage walk, delving into the rich cultural and historical legacy of Prayagraj. They will also get an aerial view of the Maha Kumbh area during an exciting helicopter ride. Dinner and rest arrangements have been made at the tent city to ensure their comfort.
Maha Kumbh, which began on 13 January, will continue until 26 February. The key bathing dates include:
- 29 January: Mauni Amavasya (Second Shahi Snan)
- 3 February: Basant Panchami (Third Shahi Snan)
