New Delhi, August 9 (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday called on citizens to participate enthusiastically in the Centre’s ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign as India prepares to celebrate its 80th Independence Day.

This year’s campaign is being held under the theme ‘Vande Mataram’, coinciding with the 150th anniversary of the national song.

PM Modi urges people to hoist Tricolour at homes

Sharing a post by the Ministry of Culture on X, Modi described the national flag as a symbol of pride and a constant source of inspiration for citizens.

‘Our Tricolour is our pride and a constant source of inspiration to always give our best for the nation,’ the Prime Minister said.

He urged people to participate in the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ movement and renew their collective commitment towards building a ‘Viksit Bharat’.

Modi also welcomed the decision to dedicate this year’s campaign to ‘Vande Mataram’, noting that the national song is completing 150 years.

The Ministry of Culture said the call of ‘Vande Mataram’ has stirred the spirit of the nation for 150 years.

It appealed to citizens to bring that spirit into their homes and streets through Tiranga Yatras, rallies, concerts and mass singing of the national song.

The ministry also highlighted ‘Suryapath Tiranga’, describing it as a first-of-its-kind global celebration aimed at bringing Indians across the world together through the national flag.

As part of the campaign, citizens have been encouraged to hoist the Tricolour at their homes and upload selfies through the official ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ website.

BJP launches Tiranga Yatra across states

The appeal came as the Bharatiya Janata Party launched ‘Tiranga Yatra’ programmes across several states on Sunday.

Party leaders said the initiative aims to honour the sacrifices of freedom fighters and reinforce respect for the national flag.

In Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav participated in a Tiranga Yatra in Bhopal. Speaking to reporters, he recalled the freedom movement and said citizens have a duty to remember the sacrifices of revolutionaries, martyrs and freedom fighters.

In Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took part in a Tiranga rally in Lucknow.

Adityanath said the country’s youth represent its energy and possess the strength to confront challenges facing India.

He stressed the need to provide young people with the right platform and equip them with both traditional education and the skills needed to address challenges facing society and the nation.

He said the BJP was launching Tiranga Yatras across the country with the vision of channelising youth energy towards nation-building.

The nationwide campaign comes ahead of Independence Day celebrations, with the Tricolour set to take centre stage through public rallies, cultural programmes and citizen-led activities across the country.
