New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior ministers have extended their warm greetings to the people of India on the special occasion of Raksha Bandhan, a festival that celebrates the strong bond between brothers and sisters.
On his official X account, Prime Minister Modi wished the nation a joyful celebration. "Best wishes on the special occasion of Raksha Bandhan," PM Modi wrote. He highlighted the festival’s role in strengthening the relationship between siblings and bringing families together.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also conveyed his heartfelt wishes to all Indians on this sacred day. "Heartfelt best wishes to all countrymen on the sacred festival of 'Raksha Bandhan,' dedicated to the unbreakable bond of love, trust, and commitment to protection between brothers and sisters. I pray to God that this festival becomes a source of joy and enthusiasm in everyone's life," Shah wrote on X.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh used the occasion to reflect on the values behind Raksha Bandhan, describing it as more than just the act of tying a thread. "Heartfelt best wishes to all of you on the sacred occasion of Raksha Bandhan. This festival is not only about the purity of the rakhi thread but also a symbol of the commitment to honor, protect, and ensure the happiness and prosperity of our sisters. May this festival, a symbol of the love between brothers and sisters, further strengthen the spirit of protection within us--that is my prayer to God."
What is Raksha Bandhan?
Raksha Bandhan is a traditional Hindu festival that celebrates the deep emotional bond between siblings. Sisters tie a rakhi (a sacred thread) around their brothers’ wrists, and in return, brothers give gifts and make a promise to protect their sisters from harm.
This festival is widely celebrated across India and holds strong cultural and spiritual value.
This year, Raksha Bandhan falls on 9 August. Families across the country are marking the day with rituals, sweets, and the traditional exchange of gifts.
The festival has been observed for centuries and is mentioned in ancient Hindu scriptures as a symbol of sibling love and commitment.
