New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the Somnath Temple in Gujarat on January 11, officials said on Monday. The visit coincides with a series of year-long programmes being organised to mark the ‘Somnath Swabhiman Parv’, a commemorative initiative celebrating the temple’s historical and cultural significance.

According to officials, Somnath will host multiple spiritual and social activities between January 8 and 11 as part of the celebrations. The events are aimed at highlighting the legacy of the ancient shrine and its enduring place in India’s civilisational history.

Prime Minister Modi has repeatedly described the Somnath Temple as a powerful symbol of the resilience of Indian civilisation, noting that it was rebuilt after repeated attacks by foreign invaders. He has said the temple reflects the nation’s ability to rise again despite adversity.

In a recent blog post marking 1,000 years since the first recorded attack on the Somnath Temple, the prime minister wrote that Somnath stands as a testament to India’s indomitable spirit. “There can be no better example of our civilisation’s indomitable spirit than Somnath, which stands gloriously, overcoming odds and struggle,” he said.
