New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated two major highway projects in Delhi on Sunday. Ahead of the inauguration, the PM said that the Central government remains committed to enhancing transportation infrastructure across the country through improved connectivity.

PM Modi held a roadshow at Mundka-Bakkarwala village toll plaza, acknowledging the crowd chanting 'Modi-Modi' by waving his hand.

The PM was felicitated by Union Road Transport & Highway Minister Nitin Gadkari and interacted with construction workers prior to the inauguration.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Prime Minister wrote:

"Across the country, we are continuously engaged in enhancing transportation facilities with the expansion of connectivity. In this direction, tomorrow at around 12:30 PM, I will have the privilege of inaugurating two major national highway projects. This will further streamline traffic in Delhi-NCR."

Projects worth nearly ₹11,000 crore

The two highway projects, with a combined value of approximately ₹11,000 crore, were inaugurated by the Prime Minister at around 12.30 pm on Sunday in Rohini, Delhi. He also addressed the public on the occasion.

The projects – the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway and the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) – are part of the government’s broader strategy to decongest the capital. They aim to improve overall connectivity, reduce travel time, and alleviate traffic pressure in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR).

These developments are in line with the Prime Minister’s vision of delivering world-class infrastructure that promotes ease of living and ensures seamless mobility.

Dwarka Expressway – Delhi section

The 10.1-kilometre-long Delhi stretch of the Dwarka Expressway has been built at a cost of around ₹5,360 crore. This section will provide multi-modal connectivity to key infrastructure points, including Yashobhoomi, the Delhi Metro’s Blue and Orange Lines, the upcoming Bijwasan railway station, and the Dwarka Cluster Bus Depot.

The section is divided into two packages:

Package I: 5.9 km from Shiv Murti intersection to the Road Under Bridge (RUB) at Dwarka Sector-21

Package II: 4.2 km from Dwarka Sector-21 RUB to the Delhi-Haryana border, offering direct connectivity to Urban Extension Road-II

The 19-kilometre Haryana stretch of the Dwarka Expressway was inaugurated by the Prime Minister earlier in March 2024.

Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II)

The Prime Minister also inaugurated the Alipur to Dichaon Kalan section of UER-II, including newly developed links to Bahadurgarh and Sonipat, built at an estimated cost of ₹5,580 crore. This route is expected to ease congestion on Delhi’s Inner and Outer Ring Roads, as well as key traffic junctions such as Mukarba Chowk, Dhaula Kuan, and NH-09.

The new spurs will provide direct access to Bahadurgarh and Sonipat, significantly improving industrial connectivity, reducing inner-city traffic, and expediting goods movement throughout the NCR.
