Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday outlined four major ambitions for India during his two-day visit to the Netherlands, saying the country is aiming to host the Olympics, become a global manufacturing hub, lead in green energy and emerge as a key engine of global economic growth.

Addressing the Indian diaspora in The Hague, Modi said India’s ambitions are now expanding beyond its borders as the country pushes rapid growth in technology, infrastructure and innovation.

Host the Olympics

Modi said India wants to host the Olympic Games in the future as the country looks to strengthen its global profile in sports and infrastructure.

Become a global manufacturing hub

Highlighting the “Make in India” initiative, Modi said India is rapidly emerging as a manufacturing powerhouse driven by youth, startups and technology sectors such as AI, defence and space.

He said India is now the world’s third-largest startup ecosystem and added that work is underway on 12 semiconductor plants, with production already started at two facilities.

“Now even chips will be ‘Designed in India’ and ‘Made in India’,” Modi said.

The Prime Minister also highlighted India’s rise as the world’s second-largest mobile phone manufacturer.

Lead in green energy

Modi also stressed India’s focus on renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure, saying the country wants to become a major global green energy hub.

Become an engine of global economic growth

The Prime Minister said India aims to play a larger role in driving global economic growth through manufacturing, innovation, infrastructure and technology-led development.

Modi arrived in the Netherlands on Friday for an official visit focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in areas including technology, semiconductors, defence, renewable energy and trade.

The Netherlands meet is part of Modi’s broader European tour, which also includes visits to Sweden, Norway and Italy.

The visit comes amid growing momentum in India’s economic and strategic engagement with Europe following the signing of the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement and the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement earlier this year.
