Chennai/New Delhi: Pet parents, rejoice! You can now book your beloved dogs and cats in the First AC cabins of Indian Railways through the IRCTC website, making train journeys more inclusive for your furry companions.

Announced by Southern Railway, this move brings more comfort and convenience for pet owners who previously had to navigate a more complicated offline process. Whether heading on holiday or relocating, passengers can now ensure their four-legged friends travel in style.

How does it work?

According to the Indian Railways

1. Booking of dogs can be done in the dog boxes with the guard, subject to availability. Such dog boxes are available in many trains. The availability of a dog box in a train can be enquired from the Parcel office concerned.

2. Puppies/ kittens which can be carried in a basket can be carried by owners in any class after payment of usual pet booking charges.

3. Dogs/ cats accompanied by owners can be carried in 1st AC when the entire four berth cabin or 2 berth coupe is booked by such passengers on a single PNR on payment of usual pet booking charges.

4. The request for allotment of such a 4 berth cabin or 2 berth coupe can be made in the Divisional Railway Manager Office or General Manager Office. Due consideration is given to such requests while allotting the cabin or coupe.
