The Centre has revised passport application charges across categories, increasing the cost of fresh passports, renewals and replacement passports from July 1, 2026. The revised fee structure, notified by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), brings a substantial hike in both regular and Tatkal passport services.

The increase is expected to affect first-time applicants, passport renewal seekers and those requiring urgent Tatkal processing, with some categories witnessing fee hikes of up to Rs 2,500.

The revised charges have been notified through amendments to the Passports Rules, 1980, under the provisions of the Passports Act, 1967.

What has changed?

The biggest impact will be on applicants opting for Tatkal passports, where fees have risen sharply across categories. Charges for standard passport applications have also been increased for both adults and minors.
