New Delhi: Proceedings in both Houses of Parliament were disrupted on Friday during Day 5 of the Monsoon Session, with the Lok Sabha adjourned to reconvene at 11 am on July 27, 2026, while the Rajya Sabha was adjourned till 2 pm amid sustained Opposition protests over the NEET paper leak, alleged police action on students, and the demand for Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation.

The Rajya Sabha, too, witnessed similar scenes, with Opposition members continuing their protest over the NEET paper leak issue, forcing repeated interruptions before the House was adjourned earlier till noon.

Friday's proceedings were marked by persistent sloganeering from Congress and other Opposition parties, which accused the Centre of failing to address concerns surrounding the education sector.

Opposition MPs gathered inside the Parliament premises before the Houses assembled, carrying placards and banners demanding Pradhan's removal from the Union Cabinet.

The protest later shifted inside Parliament, where lawmakers continued raising slogans, disrupting the scheduled business of the day.

As soon as the Lok Sabha convened, Opposition members were on their feet, pressing their demand for the Education Minister's resignation.

Despite attempts to continue legislative business, the continuous uproar made it difficult for proceedings to function normally.

Amid the din, the House was eventually adjourned for the remainder of the day and is now scheduled to reconvene on July 27 at 11 am.

The Rajya Sabha also remained affected by Opposition protests. Soon after Chairman C P Radhakrishnan initiated Zero Hour proceedings, Opposition members created an uproar over the NEET paper leak issue.

Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge sought to raise the matter in the House, but amid persistent slogan shouting and disruptions, the Chair adjourned proceedings till 12 noon.

The latest disruptions underscore the continued standoff between the government and the Opposition during the Monsoon Session.

Congress and its allies have intensified their demand that Prime Minister Narendra Modi remove Pradhan from the Union Cabinet, alleging that the government has failed to adequately respond to issues concerning the education sector.

The ruling BJP, however, has defended the minister and maintained that the government remains committed to addressing all concerns through appropriate institutional mechanisms.

The Monsoon Session has witnessed repeated protests since it began earlier this week, with both Houses experiencing multiple adjournments due to Opposition demonstrations.

Besides demanding Pradhan's resignation, Opposition parties have also sought discussions on various issues, including the alleged irregularities in competitive examinations and other matters of public importance.

Visuals from Parliament on Friday showed Opposition MPs holding banners reading ‘Dismiss Pradhan’ while raising slogans inside the Parliament complex.

The demonstrations reflected the escalating political confrontation between the Treasury and Opposition benches, with neither side showing signs of relenting.

With the Lok Sabha now adjourned until July 27 and the Rajya Sabha repeatedly disrupted during the day, legislative business has continued to bear the brunt of the political deadlock.

It remains to be seen whether discussions between the government and Opposition over the weekend will help ease tensions before Parliament reconvenes on Monday.
