The political row over the Ram Mandir skit staged by Opposition MPs inside Parliament took a violent turn on Sunday after a slipper was hurled at Purnia MP Pappu Yadav during a press conference, leading to a scuffle between unidentified men and his supporters.

The incident took place at Yadav's residence while he was speaking to reporters about the controversy surrounding the skit. A slipper was thrown towards the MP before his supporters intervened, resulting in a brief clash.

After the incident, Yadav claimed the confrontation was an attempt to kill him.

"Babas are saying every day, 'Kill me, burn me down; we will give ?51 lakh.' We caught him and handed him over to the police. There was a plot to kill me, but I survived," he told reporters.

The MP also alleged that one of the men involved was carrying a knife. There has been no official confirmation from the police on the allegation.

The confrontation comes just two days after Yadav's role in a satirical skit inside the Parliament complex triggered a political storm.

On July 31, Opposition MPs staged a performance to highlight allegations related to donations collected for the Ram Mandir. Yadav appeared in saffron robes, portraying a temple priest, while other MPs enacted scenes involving a donation box and allegations of corruption.

The performance drew sharp criticism from BJP leaders, who accused the Opposition of hurting religious sentiments.

Among those who filed police complaints in Delhi were BJP leader Bansuri Swaraj and several party MLAs. A separate FIR was later registered in Varanasi following a complaint by a religious leader, while another complaint against Yadav was lodged by petitioner Surya Maithil at Jehangirpuri Police Station.

The Bajrang Dal has also protested against the skit, demanding action against the Opposition MPs involved.

Despite the growing backlash and multiple complaints, Yadav has stood by the performance. He has questioned whether raising issues linked to the Ram Mandir and the sentiments of the Hindu community should be considered objectionable.
