New Delhi: Opposition MPs staged a protest in the Parliament complex on Friday over the alleged embezzlement of donations made to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya and the alleged police action against student protesters at Delhi's Jantar Mantar.

The protest, held in the Parliament House complex, saw Independent MP Pappu Yadav dressed in saffron robes as he enacted what Opposition leaders described as the "theft" of donations meant for the Ram Temple. Several MPs from Opposition parties joined the demonstration, raising slogans and demanding accountability from the Centre.

The protest coincided with disruptions inside the Lok Sabha, where proceedings were repeatedly interrupted by sloganeering.

Amid the ruckus, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla adjourned the House till 12 noon and urged Opposition members to allow Question Hour to continue.

Before adjourning the House, Birla appealed to members to maintain the dignity of Parliament and refrain from disruptive conduct.

"The dignity of the House and the Parliament complex should be maintained," the Speaker said, adding that some members had submitted written complaints regarding the protests.

Referring to the manner in which some MPs had participated in the demonstration, Birla remarked, "Bhesh badal, badal ke (aaten hain). The dignity of House and Parliament complex should be maintained. Some members have given to me in writing. You are destroying the dignity of House."

The Speaker also noted that Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had a listed question during Question Hour, reiterating his appeal for the House to function normally.
