New Delhi: Over 100 terrorists were killed in India's precision strikes targeting nine terror camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), senior military officials confirmed during a joint media briefing on Sunday.

The high-level press conference, held at 6:30 PM, was addressed by Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMO) from the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. Key officials present included Air Marshal AK Bharati, Lt General Rajiv Ghai, Vice Admiral AN Pramod, and Major General SS Sharda.

Lt General Rajiv Ghai stated that Indian forces had identified numerous terrorist camps across the border. However, some of these were found to be vacated, likely fearing Indian retaliation. "After carefully studying the intelligence and surveillance inputs, specific high-value targets were selected for precision strikes," he added.

Providing further details, Lt General Ghai said that the coordinated strikes on nine terror hubs resulted in the deaths of over 100 terrorists, including top figures like Yusuf Azhar, Abdul Malik Rauf, and Mudasir Ahmed—individuals linked to the IC814 hijacking and the Pulwama terror attack.

He added that following the operation, Pakistan violated the Line of Control, and its disoriented response was evident in the indiscriminate shelling of civilian areas, including populated villages and even religious places like Gurudwaras, which led to unfortunate civilian casualties.

Ghai also informed that the Indian Air Force and the Indian Navy played a "major part" in these strikes.

"The line of control was also violated soon after by Pakistan, and the erratic and rattled response of our enemy was apparent from the number of civilians, inhabited villages and religious sites such as Gurudwaras that were unfortunately hit by them, leading to a sad loss of lives. The Indian Air Force played a major part in these strikes by engaging some of these camps, and the Indian Navy provided wherewithal in terms of precision munitions. The Indian Air Force had their assets up in the sky," he added.

DGMO Ghai said that the brutal Pahalgam terror attack and the "numerous other" such attacks on armed forces and defenceless civilians prompted India to make a "compelling statement of our resolve as a nation" against terrorism.

"You are all by now familiar with the brutality and the dastardly manner in which 26 innocent lives were prematurely terminated at Pahalgam on April 22. When you combine those horrific scenes and the pain of the families that the nation witnessed with numerous other recent terrorist strikes on our armed forces and defenceless civilians, we knew that the time had arrived to make yet another compelling statement of our resolve as a nation," he said.

Air Marshal AK Bharati said the Indian Air Force employed precision air-to-surface missiles during the operation, which was launched in the early hours of May 7.

Operation Sindoor was initiated in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 civilian lives.
