The Railways informed that the Mettupalayam-Ooty heritage train will not operate till August 31 owing to bad weather. The service has also been suspended due to the possibility of landslides in the area.

This is the second time in a month that the Ooty heritage train service has been suspended.

There was no service from August 9 to 25 due to incessant rains in Nilgiris district and maintenance of tracks.

One of the major attractions in Ooty is the Nilgiri Mountain Railway, which connects Mettupalayam and Ooty.

Constructed by the British in the late 19th century, the Nilgiri Mountain Railway was designed to link the hill station of Ooty (Udhagamandalam) with the town of Mettupalayam in Tamil Nadu. It began operating for the public in 1899.
