A fire in Navi Mumbai’s Raheja Residency killed four, injured ten, and prompted swift rescue response

Mumbai: A tragic fire in a Navi Mumbai flat claimed the lives of four people, including three from Thiruvananthapuram and injured 10 others. The blaze erupted in an apartment in Vashi. The victims from Kerala have been identified as six-year-old Vedika Sundar Balakrishnan and her parents, Sundar Balakrishnan and Pooja Rajan, along with Kamala Hiral Jain.
Prima facie, the blaze started at around 12.30 am in a flat on the 10th floor of the Raheja Residency, MGM Complex, at Sector 14 in Vashi area, and spread to the 11th and 12th floors, an official said. The injured persons were rushed to two hospitals in Vashi.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Navi Mumbai, Vashi Division, Adinath Budhwant said, “A sudden fire broke out at 12:30 pm on the 10th floor and spread to the 11th and 12th floors. A total of 14 people were injured, four of whom died. The injured are being treated in the hospital, and many have been discharged. The fire has been extinguished, and an investigation into the cause is underway.”
After being alerted, 40 fire brigade personnel along with 8 fire tenders and police rushed to the spot and the blaze was put out by 4 am, the official said.
The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained, the official said.
