Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences on Friday following the death of legendary playback singer P Jayachandran, praising his emotive voice and vast contribution to music across multiple languages. Modi took to X to honor Jayachandran's legacy, describing him as a singer whose performances resonated with deep emotions and whose melodies would continue to touch the hearts of generations to come.

In his tribute, Modi shared, "Shri P. Jayachandran Ji was blessed with legendary voice that conveyed a wide range of emotions. His soulful renditions across various languages will continue to touch hearts for generations to come. Pained by his passing. My thoughts are with his family and admirers in this hour of grief."

Renowned playback singer P Jayachandran, affectionately called 'Bhava Gayakan' for his soulful renditions that beautifully expressed emotions such as love, longing, and devotion, passed away on Thursday evening at a private medical college in Thrissur. He was 80.

He was taken to the hospital after collapsing at his residence on Thursday, they said. He had been unwell for quite some time.

The singer who recorded over 16,000 songs in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi, was widely recognised for his contribution to Indian music, having won several awards for best playback singer. He was honoured with the National Film Award and the Kerala government's J C Daniel Award for his outstanding contribution to cinema. Additionally, he won Kerala State Film Awards five times and Tamil Nadu State Film Awards twice.

The funeral will be held at 3 pm on Saturday at his ancestral home in Chendamangalam.
