Kolkata: Two days after criticising West Bengal as being under "Aurangzeb's rule," the father of the Durgapur gang rape survivor described Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday as a "mother-like figure" and urged her forgiveness if he had spoken against her.

He appealed to Banerjee to help his daughter secure justice but said he intends to take her back home in Odisha.

"Mamata Banerjee is like a mother-like figure to me. If I have said anything wrong, I ask her to forgive me. I will render countless obeisance at her feet. But I ask her to help my daughter get justice," he told television channels.

Decision to take daughter home

Earlier, on Monday, he had criticised Banerjee’s comments that "women should not venture out at night," saying he no longer felt safe in West Bengal. "It seems Bengal is under the rule of Aurangzeb. I want to take my daughter back to Odisha. Her life comes first, career later," he had said.

On Wednesday, he reiterated that he would take his daughter back once she is declared fit by doctors.

"I have been demanding a CBI probe into this case. I think that would be good. But that depends on the state administration as well," he said, adding that he does not want his daughter to stay in the state any longer.

"Let Sonar Bangla be Sonar Bangla, but I'm taking my daughter back home. I had high hopes that she would become a doctor by studying here. I don't want other daughters in Bengal to face the same torment," he added.
