New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday extended a warm welcome to US Vice President JD Vance, his wife Usha Vance, and their three children at his official residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, in New Delhi.

The Vance family arrived for the meeting ahead of scheduled bilateral talks between the US Vice President and the Prime Minister.

Earlier in the day, the Vances visited the Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple in the national capital. Their three children embraced Indian tradition for the occasion — sons Ewan and Vivek wore kurta-pyjamas, while daughter Mirabel donned an Anarkali suit paired with an embroidered jacket.

Vance, on a four-day visit to India, is accompanied by his Indian-origin wife Usha Chilukuri, their three children — Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel — and a high-level US delegation. His meeting with Modi comes amid efforts by both nations to address key trade concerns such as tariffs and market access.

The two leaders are believed to have exchanged views on regional security, economic cooperation, and technology collaboration, though details of the meeting have not yet been officially disclosed.

Earlier in the day, Vance and his family received a ceremonial welcome at Delhi’s Palam air base, where Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw greeted them with traditional Indian performances. The couple's children, dressed in ethnic Indian attire, charmed onlookers as they descended from 'Air Force Two'.

"A very warm welcome to Vice President JD Vance, Second Lady Usha Vance and the US delegation to India," External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a post on social media. He added that the visit, which includes stops in Delhi, Jaipur, and Agra, is expected to further bolster the strategic relationship between the two democracies.

Though primarily personal, the visit has a strong symbolic and diplomatic undertone, especially as India and the US aim to conclude the first phase of an ambitious trade agreement in the coming months.
