Kannur: Citing the rush of passengers, the Maveli Express has added an additional sleeper coach by replacing a general coach.
Currently, Maveli Express has 24 coaches; nine of them are sleeper coaches, six general coaches, seven AC coaches and two SLR coaches. The decision to add a sleeper coach while reducing a general one was announced by the Railway authorities.
The Mangalore-Thiruvananthapuram (16603) train, also called Maveli Express, will have this additional coach from May 15 till May 22, while the Thiruvananthapuram-Mangalore (16604) train will have the additional coach from May 16 till May 23.
Wide scale protests were staged after many trains, including the Maveli Express, cut down sleeper coaches to add AC coaches.
A ticket inspector was attacked in the reservation coach of the Maveli Express recently.
