A new data breach may have compromised the personal information of thousands of Afghans, British troops, and civil servants, according to the Jet Centre, a ground handling company linked to the UK's Ministry of Defence.

In a statement released late Friday, the company confirmed that it suffered a "data security incident" that resulted in "unauthorised access to a limited number of company emails."

Approximately 3,700 individuals are believed to be potentially affected. The group includes Afghans brought to the UK under a relocation program, military personnel traveling for routine exercises, and journalists on official government trips.

Previous Breaches and Relocation Policy

This incident marks the latest in a series of data security concerns related to Afghan nationals who assisted British forces. In a similar incident in February 2022, an official mistakenly released the details of over 18,700 Afghans who had worked as translators and in other roles.

The British government established the Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy (ARAP) to provide refuge for these individuals and their families after the Taliban's return to power.

The repeated breaches raise concerns about the security of sensitive information for a vulnerable population seeking safety outside of Afghanistan.
