Landslide on railway track; Mangaluru-Bengaluru train traffic disrupted, several services cancelled

Bengaluru: Train services between Mangaluru and Bengaluru were severely disrupted after a landslide blocked the railway track between Yedakumeri and Shrivagilu stations on Saturday night.

The landslide, triggered by heavy rain, deposited large quantities of soil and rocks onto the tracks, bringing traffic on the Mangaluru-Yeshwantpur route to a complete halt. Persistent rainfall in the region has posed a major challenge to restoration efforts.

Railway authorities immediately deployed a special team along with a relief train to the site to clear the debris and restore services. However, continuous rain and the risk of further landslides have slowed the operation. According to Deccan Herald, restoration work is being carried out on a war footing, with additional excavators and workers deployed to make the track operational as quickly as possible.

In view of the disruption, the Mangaluru Junction-Yeshwantpur Express (16540) and the Yeshwantpur-Mangaluru Junction Express (16575), scheduled to operate on Sunday, were cancelled.

Several other train services were either short-terminated or partially cancelled. The Murudeshwar Express (16585) and the Bengaluru-Kozhikode Express (16511) terminated at Hassan. The Vijayapura-Mangaluru Central Express also ended its journey at Hassan, while the Bengaluru-Karwar Express terminated at Sakleshpur.

Meanwhile, the Kozhikode-Bengaluru Express (16512) was short-terminated at Kabaka Puttur, and the Mangaluru-Vijayapura Express (17378) concluded its journey at Subramanya Road.
