Noida: A man has been arrested in Greater Noida for allegedly tying a dog to his car and dragging it for nearly 3 kilometres, seriously injuring the animal, police said on Saturday.
The incident took place on Wednesday in the Nai Basti area, after the dog reportedly barked at a 10-year-old boy who had thrown a stone at it. According to the complaint filed by the dog's owner, Shoba Rani, the child fell while trying to run away, prompting his father, Amit, to retaliate violently.
Amit allegedly beat the four-year-old German Shepherd with sticks, tied it to his car, and dragged it for several kilometres. The dog is currently in critical condition, Rani’s husband told police.
A case was registered against Amit on the basis of the complaint, and he was arrested on Friday. His vehicle has also been seized, police added. However, during questioning, Amit claimed the dog had bitten his son, police said.
