A wedding eve in Kerala’s Malappuram district turned tense after a woman allegedly threw soil into vegetables cut for cooking, prompting police intervention on Friday evening.

The incident was reported from Chokkad, where arrangements were under way for a wedding scheduled on Saturday. Cooking for the event was being carried out at a madrasa auditorium under the Maliyekkal Juma Masjid.

According to details, a local woman allegedly threw soil into cut vegetables prepared for cooking the wedding feast meant for relatives and family members. The act disrupted ongoing preparations and created tension at the venue.

Legal dispute over auditorium site

The episode comes against the backdrop of an ongoing court case between the woman and the madrasa committee over the auditorium and its premises. A court had earlier permitted the woman and her family to draw water from a well located at the site.

Cooking materials, including cut vegetables, had been placed near this well. The woman reportedly objected to cooking activities in the vicinity and expressed her protest by throwing soil into the vegetables.

Police step in, event proceeds as planned

As news of the incident spread, local residents gathered in protest, leading to a brief stand-off. Kalikavu police reached the spot and brought the situation under control.

A case has been registered against the woman following a complaint filed by the groom. Food preparation resumed later that night under police protection.

The wedding was conducted as scheduled on Saturday despite the disruption.
