Mahua Moitra on Wednesday alleged that BJP workers hurled eggs and vegetables at her office in Krishnanagar, accusing the West Bengal Police of failing to act during the incident.

Sharing a video on X, the Trinamool Congress MP claimed she was under attack, writing, 'Currently being attacked by BJP goons with West Bengal Police watching on.'

Speaking from the spot, Moitra alleged that she had been standing outside her office for over an hour while police and Central Reserve Police Force personnel looked on.

She said she had informed senior police officials, including the Director General of Police, but alleged that no action had been taken.

'This is my area. I'm an MP here. I'm in my office. I am not going to move,' Moitra said, adding that she feared the incident would later be denied and that no legal action would follow.

The allegations come a day after the Calcutta High Court directed the West Bengal government to ensure police register FIRs in all cases involving egg pelting at accused persons or political opponents.

During the hearing of a public interest litigation, the division bench observed that even an accused person cannot be deprived of fundamental rights.

Reacting to the incident, Samik Bhattacharya, the BJP's West Bengal president, distanced the party from the alleged attack.

He said throwing eggs was 'not BJP's culture' and urged party workers to refrain from such actions, warning that such incidents could damage the party's image.

The BJP has denied encouraging such acts, while there was no official response from the West Bengal Police on Moitra's allegations at the time of publishing.
