Thrissur (Kerala): Amidst the controversy surrounding allegations that former minister and CPM leader P K Sreemathi was receiving an unmerited pension, it has emerged that the actual individual in question is a namesake based in Thrissur. This P K Sreemathi was a Congress member and the wife of late P R Krishnan, a former MLA from Kunnamkulam. P R Krishnan had been elected to the Thiru-Kochi Legislative Assembly from Ollur and later to the Kerala Legislative Assembly from Kunnamkulam. A recipient of the Tamra Patra for his active participation in the Indian freedom struggle, he passed away on July 6, 1998, whilst his wife, Sreemathi, passed away on February 24, 2020.

P R Krishnan had been receiving pensions as both a freedom fighter and a former MLA. Following his demise, his wife, Sreemathi, continued to draw these pension benefits.

P R Krishnan resided at Pookkatti in Nadathara of Thrissur. In memory of his sacrifice, having lost his teaching job due to his involvement in the freedom movement, the locality is named "Krishnan Master Moola".

Sreemathi was a primary school teacher at a management school in Pookkatti. She was the daughter of Ponnarari Kuttan from Kizhoor in Kunnamkulam. The couple's children – Babu, Shobhana, Indira, Meera Bhai and Ajith Kumar- reside across five houses situated on the ancestral family property.
