Lt Gen Seth is currently serving as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff and has previously held several important operational, staff, and strategic appointments within the Indian Army.

The Government of India has announced that Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth will take over as the next Chief of the Army Staff on 30 June 2026, following the retirement of General Upendra Dwivedi.
According to a communication issued by the Ministry of Defence, approval has been granted by the President for Lt Gen Seth’s appointment as the next Army Chief in the substantive rank of General. His tenure will run until 31 August 2028.
Lt Gen Seth is currently serving as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff and has previously held several important operational, staff, and strategic appointments within the Indian Army. He will formally assume command upon General Dwivedi’s retirement on 30 June.
